The Story Behind the Park:

Cira Green opened in 2015 as one of Philadelphia’s first elevated public parks — a creative approach to introducing meaningful community green space atop an existing parking structure. This award-winning design transformed what would have been rooftop airspace into 1.2 acres of active public realm, blending innovative urban design with sustainability. The park incorporates blue-green stormwater management technology, capturing and filtering rainwater while contributing to the site’s broader sustainability goals.

Its elevated lawn, surrounded by sweeping views of the city skyline and Schuylkill River, offers a distinctive outdoor experience within University City’s dense urban core. Sunset Social, launched by the team behind The Post and Walnut Street Café, brings casual dining, drinks, and year-round events to the rooftop. Its mix of food, entertainment, and regular programming creates an inviting destination that draws students, neighbors, office workers, and visitors from day to night.
