Located directly across from Amtrak’s 30th Street Station at the corner of 30th and Market Streets, Drexel Square is a 1.3-acre public park that serves as the gateway into Schuylkill Yards. With a steady rhythm of activity throughout the day — from morning yoga and casual meetings to afternoon lunch breaks and community events — Drexel Square offers flexible green space designed for everyday moments.

The Story Behind the Park:
Drexel Square opened to the public in June 2019 as the first phase of Schuylkill Yards, intentionally designed to establish a strong public realm foundation before vertical development began. Transforming what was once a surface parking lot into 1.3 acres of activated green space, the park reflects the district’s placemaking-first approach — prioritizing public open space, connectivity, and community engagement as essential elements of the neighborhood’s long-term vision.
The park’s design, led by SHoP Architects and West 8, was inspired by William Penn’s vision of urban parks as “public rooms.” Crisscrossing granite pathways connect visitors to surrounding streets and destinations, creating a natural crossroads within the neighborhood. Surrounded by retail, dining, and community programming, including the Food Hall at the Bulletin Building, Drexel Square remains a central gathering place within the evolving district.
